Farewell to Ambassador
The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of
Commerce organized a farewell recently at the Hilton Colombo Residences to His Excellency
Harimawan Suyitno the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Sri Lanka. His Excellency
is the Patron of the Sri Lanka Indonesia Business Council which was formed under aegis of Ceylon
Chamber of Commerce almost 25 years ago. The Ambassador has been with us in Sri Lanka for over 4 years
and rendered yeoman service to enhance business between the two nations.
The primary objective of the business council is to promote trade,
services, Tourism, Joint ventures between the two nations.
The President of the SLIBC Mr Kalinga Wijesekera in his welcome speech said.
The Embassy has assisted the business council in numerous ways, but we need to reemphasis the
granting of the "On Arrival Visa Facility " for Sri Lankans was the milestone during his tenure.
Members of the council, their spouses, past presidents,
heads of other Governmental departments and other well-wishers attended this farewell ceremony.
At the event SLIBC also welcomed the new Counsellor, and Economic Affairs of the Indonesia Embassy Mr. Pinardi Priambodo, who will be
handling all trade, investment and tourism related matters for bilateral purpose.
Hon A M Fachir, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia visited Sri Lanka
recently during which time he met with the executive
Committee of the Sri Lanka Indonesia Business Council along with other businessmen for a discussion
Mr Moiz Mohamedally-Vice President of SLIBC together with Jatinder Biala, Patrick Rodrigo,
Sudharshana Jayatilake, Hussain Hashim, Chairman, Dudley Thambinayagam ,
Mark Gonawela, Cedric Wijegunawardane, Omal Balapatebendi, Kunendran, Udaya Batawala,
Akthar Afzal, Yashim Issudeen, Naheem & Ms Cherryl Rodrigo from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce were present at the discussion.

SLIBC Annual Members Night 2014
The Sri Lanka – Indonesia Business Council (SLIBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently hosted the Annual Members Night 2004 at the Hilton Colombo. The event took place with the presence of His Excellency Harimawan Suyitno, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Sri Lanka, Mr. R D Kumararatne of DOC and Ms. Jeewani Siriwardane of EDB. The networking evening was attended by over 75 members and dignitaries and it proved to be the idyllic opportunity to interact and share views
Joint Trade mission to Indonesia 2014
A Sri Lankan business delegation led by Sri Lanka - Indonesia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the EDB concluded a successful visit to Indonesia from the 7th -11th of October 2014
The eight member delegation, during their 4 day stay in Indonesia has held several meetings and networking sessions to explore trade and investment opportunities that could be worked off between the two countries. The delegation has also attended a business forum and visited the Indonesian Trade Expo.
SLIBC Meet the Designate Ambassador to Indonesia
The Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce convened together with the Designate Ambassador to Indonesia Ms. Anoja Wijesekara on the 24th of January 2014 at the Ceylon Chamber premises.
Ms. Anoja Wijesekara whose career has predominantly revolved around her work with the UNICEF related on the nature of work she was formerly involved with; she even touched upon a few personal experiences encountered during her stay of 4 years in Afghanistan. Ms. Wijesekara comes from with an education background in Economics and a Master of Science in Development Economics from the University of London. This juncture was further attended by the Assistant Director-Economic Affairs, Mr. Gihan Indraguptha of the Ministry of External Affairs.
The meeting enabled the Executive Committee to articulate on their outlook of the business industries they operate within, which ranges from textiles, flour, tires, paper. etc and simultaneously discuss on a number of concerns presently distressing businesses from an operational standpoint. Ms. Wijesekara added onto this by conversing on the scope for improvement of trade relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia and also of her intentions to further encourage Foreign Direct Investments into Sri Lanka as she assumes her posting in Jakarta. Moreover, Mr. Indraguptha gave a briefing on the progress of the Joint Commission with Indonesia which is yet to be finalized; he also expressed how the Council could provide their input for certain facets of the agreement. Finally the SLIBC President Mr. Jatinder Biala expressed his gratitude to Ms. Wijesekara on behalf of the Committee, for the opportunity given to engage in dialogue and expressed the Council’s keen interest to maintain cordial relationships with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Indonesia and in particular with Ms. Anoja Wijesekara as the Council progresses towards the future.
